Wydarzenia

Information

We invite all residents of Dębno municipality to take part in “The Whooper Swan Days” celebrations in Germany

Lower Oder Valley National Park (Der Nationalpark Unteres Odertal), on the other side of the boundary river Oder, is organising “The Whooper Swan Days” on 24th-26th of January 2025. The event will take place in Criewen, in Germany, which can be seen across Oder from Zatoń Dolna. The opening ceremony will occur on 24th of January 2025 at 15:30 in the Criewen church, opened with a performance by a Criewen choir with a soloist Dagmara Budnik. The event will have a rich programme both for young and for older.

Lower Oder Valley is a place of hibernation and rest of many bird species, one of those being the whooper swan – mute swan’s cousin. Its flight route passes right through Dębno!

Participation in meeting celebrating “The Whooper Swan Days”, excluding any special events, is free of charge.

Apart from standard lectures and tours, participants will be able to see whooper swans in their natural habitat. An additional attraction will be a musical and literary tour of the national park.

The visitor centre in Criewen will be open for everyone (both the courtyard and the warehouse in Criewen). Regional traders will be offering their products: fresh fish, delicious baked goods, grilled dishes, cakes, mulled wine, coffee, ice desserts and many more.

On Saturday (25th of January 2025) and Sunday (26th of January 2025) at 11:00 an exclusive tour with Benedikt Jackowski from Hiddentracks will take place. The cost of the tour is 30 euro.

The organisers request to register by 23rd of January 2025 at: info@hiddentracks.eu. All participants of the tour should wear warm and weather-resistant clothes.

A musical and literary walk through the national park will also take place on Saturday and Sunday at 13:00. Under the theme ‘When the swan sings...’. It will all revolve around the magic of the whooper swan, the language of birds and the wonderful world of winter. Thomas Röhlinger will be the certified naturalist and landscape guide in the park.

  • Cost: 15 euro per adult. Children 14 and under: 8 euro.
  • Register on the website: roehlitom@yahoo.de

The entire programme can be found on the National Park's website. https://www.nationalpark-unteres-odertal.eu/singschwantage-2025/

Whooper swans can also be found at the Rozlewisko Kostrzyneckie ecological site or in the Lower Oder Valley Landscape Park. Our region is one of the most important hibernaculums of those birds. From October to April, they can be found in all ice-free water surfaces. The breeding sites of the whooper swan are mainly in northern Europe.
